![]() ![]() That's slightly quicker than a similarly equipped three-row Atlas we tested, but 0.1-second slower than the all-wheel drive model with the turbo four. With the V-6 and front-wheel drive, the Atlas Cross Sport hit 60 mph in 7.5-seconds in our testing. ![]() Engine, Transmission, and PerformanceĪ 235-hp turbocharged four-cylinder is standard but a 276-hp 3.6-liter V-6 is available as an option both engines are offered with either a front- or all-wheel drive arrangement. Shoppers who plan on pulling anything with the Atlas Cross Sport will want to get the V-6 Towing package, too. And we'd probably choose the $1900 all-wheel-drive system. We'd also opt for the V-6 over the standard turbocharged four-cylinder. We'd spec the SE model and tack on the optional Technology package, which includes automatic climate control, faux-leather upholstery, passive entry, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen. The midrange SEL now comes standard with all-wheel drive and 20-inch wheels, while a new SEL R-Line Black trim includes blacked-out exterior trim and black-painted wheels. The SE gains an 8.0-inch digital gauge display as standard, and models equipped with both the Technology package and the optional V-6 engine also now include a trailer hitch receiver. The base S trim has been culled from the Atlas Cross Sport lineup for 2022, leaving the better-equipped SE as the entry-level model. For more on-road refinement, rivals such as the Honda Passport and the Jeep Grand Cherokee are simply better choices. A host of technology features is offered and the cabin is comfortable for long-haul drives, but we wish the big VW channeled its smaller stablemates such as the Golf GTI hatchback and the Tiguan SUV and offered more excitement from behind the wheel. A turbocharged four-cylinder is standard, but a V-6 is optional, as is all-wheel drive. Usually when a manufacturer turns its SUV into a coupe, it compromises cargo area, but the Atlas Cross Sport avoids this result and in fact offers more space inside than several key rivals. Chopping the roof of the squareback Atlas and removing that model's third row of seats is the formula Volkswagen followed when creating the 2022 Atlas Cross Sport. ![]()
